- Every major offense fell in 2025. Burglary -16% (21,446 to 17,966), robbery -12%, motor vehicle theft -8%, aggravated assault -7%, homicide -7%, larceny-theft -4%.
- Almost half of all reports are property crime. 142,006 of 371,428 reports (38.2%); larceny-theft alone is 87,063 (23.4%).
- Clearances skew toward violent crime. 57% of homicides cleared vs 14% of burglaries and 14% of motor vehicle thefts (2025, reports cleared divided by reports received, reporting agencies only).
- Homicides fell by nearly a fifth. 874 reports in 2025 vs 936 in 2024 (-7%) across reporting agencies.
- The biggest volume is not violent. Simple assault (79,239) alone outweighs the entire personal-safety total (28,965, 7.8% of reports).
- Watch the monthly shape. Larceny-theft peaked in Jul (7,910) and troughed in Nov (6,464), a 1.2× swing inside a single year.
- These are reporting-agency sums. 135 of 386 agencies reported burglary in December 2025 (vs 154 in January); totals reflect who reported, not a census of crime.
Takeaways are computed from summed FBI CDE reported counts (source year 2025, 386 agencies in file). They describe reported data, not forecasts; check the methodology and coverage notes before reuse.
