Missouri in 7 numbers
- Every major offense fell in 2025. Motor vehicle theft -26% (46,002 to 33,908), robbery -17%, larceny-theft -13%, homicide -10%, aggravated assault -7%, burglary -6%.
- Almost half of all reports are property crime. 226,428 of 497,346 reports (45.5%); larceny-theft alone is 125,647 (25.3%).
- Clearances skew toward violent crime. 70% of homicides cleared vs 9% of motor vehicle thefts and 19% of burglaries (2025, reports cleared divided by reports received, reporting agencies only).
- Homicides fell by nearly a fifth. 885 reports in 2025 vs 986 in 2024 (-10%) across reporting agencies.
- The biggest volume is not violent. Simple assault (87,153) alone outweighs the entire personal-safety total (49,157, 9.9% of reports).
- Watch the monthly shape. Larceny-theft peaked in Aug (11,692) and troughed in Feb (8,736), a 1.3× swing inside a single year.
- These are reporting-agency sums. 299 of 559 agencies reported motor vehicle theft in December 2025 (vs 311 in January); totals reflect who reported, not a census of crime.
Takeaways are computed from summed FBI CDE reported counts (source year 2025, 559 agencies in file). They describe reported data, not forecasts; check the methodology and coverage notes before reuse.
